Register Your Emergency Contact Info
When emergencies happen, emergency contact info is as close as your Florida drivers license. When you register with the Emergency Contact Information (ECI) program, law enforcement officials can access information to contact friends or loved ones in cases of emergency.
The ECI program is a result of efforts of Christine Olson, who was notified 6-1/2 hours after her daughter Tiffany was fatally injured in a traffic accident. Wanting to help others avoid this horrible experience, Ms. Olson, with the assistance of Florida State Representative Bill Galvano and the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (DHSMV), developed the program originally know as TIFF's Initiative (To Inform Families First). Similar programs have been established in Colorado, Illinois and Ohio.
Through websites https://www8.flhsmv.gov/eci/ or www.ToInformFamiliesFirst.org, Florida residents can have contact info embedded on their Florida drivers license or Florida ID card. The information is stored and secured by DHSMV and is only accessed by law enforcement. The program is voluntary and there is no cost.
There are currently over 3.2 million persons registered on Florida ECI. The goal is to have 5 million registrations by end of 2010.
